The use of creativity methods for Industrial Design problem solving,
In this paper several approaches of creativity would be reviewed and then evaluated. The goal of the paper is to find a range of creativity methods which would be more suitable for designers. Based on that assumption, the concept of appropriate creativity would be introduced. It would be discussed how designers are trying to keep their creativity alive while they are trying to deal with real situations and wicked problems. It would be also tested how free creativity would help designers deal with real problems they are working. Based on these assumptions, some exercises would be designed for design students of University of Tehran, Iran and their feed back is analyzed. The structure of these exercises are shaped in a way that first free creativity, meaning creativity based on artistic manners, would be motivated and then some real design problems would be offered to them. It would be tested how students would refer to these free techniques while trying to solve their own problems. The primary results show us the value of free techniques in generating solutions for design problems. It also shows how students change the nature of those free exercises in order to generate their own creative solutions. Applications of this study would be also for generating artistic techniques in problem solving process.
