Abstract
To achieve efficient and safe use of a human-machine system, it is important to consider both the human and the technical components of the system. If machines are adapted to the human characteristics, abilities and limitations, the probability of human error decreases. The scope of this paper is to present an analytical usability evaluation method for predicting and identifying use errors and usability problems in the human-machine interaction. The method is task-based, which makes it possible to use in the design phase of the machine interface with focus on operational procedures. The method can be applied in four different ways throughout the whole the development process, with the aims to gather requirements, search for design improvements, identify mismatches in the interaction, and assess effectiveness and safety in the human-machine interaction.
