Abstract
Whilst aesthetics in a general sense has often been a subject for research, there is less research on how aesthetics more specifically relates to play and playfulness in experiences. In this paper I make a connection between the aesthetics of a product and play(ful) experiences, relating principles for aesthetic expression to a classification of six different play forms. Using the aesthetic principles as guidelines can enhance the playfulness of the resulting experience, and furthermore nudge the user towards specific types of play/playful experiences, for instance in relation to learning.
